Ohiopyle

Ohiopyle is a borough in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The population was 77 at the 2000 census.

History

Originally know as Falls City, it was laid out by Albert Stewart in 1868. It was incorporated as a borough on September 7, 1891 as Ohiopyle because another town called Falls City already existed.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 77 people, 34 households, and 21 families residing in Ohiopyle. The population density was 72.5/km² (185.9/mi²). There were 44 housing units at an average density of 41.4/km² (106.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 100.00% White. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.30% of the population.

There were 34 households out of which 26.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.2% were married couples living together, 26.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 32.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.82.

Ohiopyle’s population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 2.6% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 29.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 75.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.3 males.

The median income for a household in Ohiopyle was $22,083, and the median income for a family was $25,833. Males had a median income of $43,125 versus $20,625 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $10,247. There were 18.2% of families and 20.8% of the population living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and 55.6% of those over 64.
