About Us

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Landlords Association was formed to help address the housing situation in Uniontown and the surrounding areas from a unified perspective. Unified meaning we have established a mission to work with Mayor’s offices, City Councils, city officials and neighborhood associations.

As the President of the landlord’s association I had the opportunity to introduce our Code of Ethics and our Mission Statement to the Uniontown City Council and to those present at the last City Council meeting.

Our Code of Ethics places honesty and integrity at the top of its list with a strong focus on education to promote professionalism and progress of the rental property industry.

Our mission is that through the efforts of our member investors we will strive to be recognized by the community, by the industry and by government leaders as a positive professional force, providing housing opportunities throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. Through an ongoing series of workshop clinics and guest speakers we will be educating our members in a variety of disciplines needed for the successful acquisition, ownership, maintenance, management and improvement of investment property.

Many landlords from Southwestern Pennsylvania have put long hours and much pride into backing the formation of this association and our intent is to be a positive pro-active force in addressing and solving the housing issues we all face.

Member Benefits

Attorney on Call – Maria Balling-Peck has agreed to be on call for members. She is available by phone to answer short real estate related questions free of cost. She will also provide a legal update each meeting regarding issues affecting our members.

Monthly meetings with guest speakers – Each month we will hold a membership meeting with a guest speaker providing an educational presentation on a real estate investment related topic.

Landlord list – We will form a list of tenants to better screen applicants.

Forms – Leases, Notice to Quit forms, Lead Paint Disclosures, and other forms necessary for the residential real estate investor will be available to all members.

Workshops – More in-depth educational presentations will be held by real estate professionals at various times. Examples could be searching a title or the handling eviction process.

Eviction Reports, Credit and Background Checks – Members can obtain eviction reports form a national data base of court docs and other tenant verification information from the PROA web site. At very affordable prices! Example: Evicton report is currently $5.95

PROA Answer Line – This is an online bulletin board forum available exclusively to PROA members. Using this forum, members can post questions, obtain answers, discuss issues, learn from each other, and obtain information relating to real estate investment and property management. The forum is divided into major subject categories, sub-categories, and individual topics. Each topic is moderated by someone with expertise in that subject, who can respond to questions and moderate discussions. Members can post questions or comments under any topic, and can read items posted by other members. New categories and topic areas can easily be added as needed. The PROA Answer Line also contains a secure e-mail and instant messaging system which allows PROA members to communicate with each other.

Quarterly News Letter – Our newsletters keep members informed of developments in the Pennsylvania legislature as well as our upcoming conferences and programs. Members can download the latest issue, and access past issues from our website.

Discounts on Paint – Through an arrangement with the Sherwin Williams Company, PROA members receive a 40% discount on paint and other products from any Sherwin Williams store. A special discount card is required. Members can obtain their cards from the local PROA chapter where they hold their membership.

PROA Store - Courses, books, tapes, and other educational materials from nationally recognized real estate investment speakers may be purchased from the PROA web site store.

Conferences and Programs - PROA sponsors at least one state-wide conference each year. These educational events include nationally recognized real estate speakers and other programs of interest to landlords. These are great opportunities to learn more about the rental business, and to network with other landlords across the state.
